If you've been anywhere near Colorado pop culture lately, you’ve probably heard the buzz: Casa Bonita is back, and it looks better than ever. I had the absolute joy of working as an architectural photographer in Denver on this project last year, capturing the interior design magic that transformed this legendary space into something new—while still keeping the pink tower charm alive.
The creative brain behind the redesign? Joe Crowley, a force of nature. Oh, and two guys named Trey and Matt might’ve had something to do with it too (if you know, you know).
For several months, I had what can only be described as the coolest office in town. I shot everything from the ornate interiors to the moodier restaurant spaces—while being regularly fed by Chef Loca, whose food made it very hard to leave at the end of the day.
Special shoutouts go to:
- Brook Aitken, for flying a drone indoors like a boss (and snapping some killer stills)
- Jack Hamlin, who made sure no one went uncaffeinated, and always returned my calls (which is rarer than you'd think).
For the photo nerds: this series was shot on a Nikon Z7II + Venus Optics 15mm Zero-D shift lens for that ultra-clean, distortion-free perspective.
What Made This Shoot Unique?
This was more than just documenting a space. It was about storytelling—translating the vibe of Casa Bonita’s quirky, colorful, nostalgic energy into images that do it justice.
From an architectural interiors standpoint, the lighting challenges, vibrant tones, and mixed-use spaces made it one of the most exciting - and, let’s be real - fun projects I’ve ever done.
