Off the Clock

New Topographics. This style was all the rage (not really) in the 1970s when it was recognized by George Eastman House in Rochester. Fifty years later those artists have proved to be some of the best in modern photography: Louis Baltz, Frank Gohlke, and Colorado's own Robert Adams.

For years, since before I knew what it was called, I've shot in this style on walkabouts, road trips, and in the middle of running errands. The greats (except Stephen Shore) all shot black & white, but I think color adds to the story. I post work like this regularly on my Bluesky at @trantow.bsky.social.

Please find me there!
