Edward Weston said, “Photography…to the professional is work, and hard work too, no matter how pleasurable it my be.” So, just because the sun is shining and you’re working with a great-looking model and excellent crew, work is work.
Some days are better than others, that’s all.
And early summer on the Long Island Sound was certainly one of those days. For a full-page legal ad, we shot an east-coast attorney, Carter Mario, aboard Tarheel, his beautifully-appointed sportfishing boat. Ably assisted by Matt Burdick and Lourdes Jeannette, the boards called for several ‘hero’ poses of Mr. Mario enjoying the fruits of a thriving firm. But existing light wasn’t going to be compelling enough—We were tasked with controlling midday summer sun and bringing studio sources around.
Without dropping them overboard.
