Boulder’s crown jewels is the little-known National Institute of Standards and Technology, or NIST, where the world’s top physicists research the Next Big Thing. As their photographer, I’m always baffled by the complexity of the work going on there, and tax my remaining brain cells trying not to bump into anything breakable. Some of these labs are tidier than others.
Every year, I have the pleasure of photographing their National Awards winners (some of whom are Nobel laureates) and attempting to put their achievements into pictures.
